2013 LEDGE Dante Dusi Vineyard
In the early 1920’s Dante Dusi planted this vineyard with an unknown Zinfandel clone, on it’s own roots. The vineyard is in the heart of the Templeton Gap District, just north of Templeton on the 101 across from brother Dante Dusi’s Zinfandel vineyard sourced by Ridge. The Dusi family are long time friends of the Adams’ with Michael Dusi and Mark Adams being close friends from kindergarten through gratudation at Templeton High School. This Zinfandel is given the same whole cluster treatment as the other Ledge wines, giving the wine a freshness and linear quality not common in Paso Robles Zinfandels. This wine is fermented with wild yeasts and aged in new and neutral barrique barrels for 18 months. Drink now – 8 years.

Bright purple. Robust, expansive black and blue fruit aromas show very good energy and pick up suggestions of woodsmoke and Indian spices as the wine opens in the glass. Sweet, penetrating and seamless on the palate, offering intense blueberry and candied lavender flavors and a touch of vanilla. Sweet, spicy and quite seductive right now but this wine has the stuffing to reward patience. Finishes with fine-grained, mounting tannins.

Another outstanding wine is the 2013 Zinfandel Dante Dusi, which has considerable freshness and purity to go with classic Zinfandel notes of white pepper, cigar wrapper, spice and sweet cherry and kirsch-like fruit. Medium to full-bodied, elegant and silky, it comes from own rooted, dry farmed vines planted in 1945 and spent 18 months in neutral French and Hungarian oak barrels. Drink it over the coming 7-8 years as well.
