Leading off the 2022s, the already bottled 2022 James Berry Vineyard is based on 65% Grenache, 22% Syrah, 11% Mourvèdre, and a tiny bit of Roussanne. It has a riveting nose of red and black fruits, ground pepper, sweet incense, orange blossom, and leather. This ripe, medium to full-bodied, beautifully textured, opulent beauty has sweet tannins, no hard edges, and a great, great finish. As with all of Mark’s 2022s, it’s not inky nor massively concentrated, yet the purity of fruit is impeccable, it’s flawlessly balanced, and has an incredibly sense of elegance.
